Many people know that alcohol is bad for their health, family and work-life and friendships but carry on drinking ? Why? As long as they believe that alcohol helps them have a good time, disconnect, relax, camouflage uncomfortable feelings, then either they will carry on drinking as they cannot imagine their lives without it, or they will stop but with will-power, feeling they`ve had to give something up. In many cases the person starts again, thinking “this time I’ll just drink every now and again,” but before they know it, they’re drinking the same amount as before.
Alcohol is the most used drug in our society: a silent pandemic which affects millions of people.
In our society the answer to camouflage or avoid general dissatisfaction or uncomfortable feelings is often to “take something” or “buy something”. That is to say, we tend to treat the symptoms and not the problem. One consequence of this is that for many, their default position is to live dependent on alcohol.
Our approach is radically different to recovery programmes. We are in no way associated with AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) nor with any other programme based on the 12 Steps. Alcohol is the most harmful drug in our society.
It has been shown that alcohol is more harmful overall than heroin, crack-cocaine, metanfetamines or cocaine in a study done by David Nutt in 2008 for the British government.

Alcohol and poor mental health are closely related. People who drink alcohol regularly are more likely to develop mental health problems. Especially depression.

Studies show that drinking can negatively affect relationships.
